ABIX via COMTEX) -- No change in official interest rates was introduced by the Central Bank of the Philippines at a meeting on 11 April 2002. The impact of previous decreases in interest rates is still yet to be fully felt by the economy of the Philippines. The Central Bank of the Philippines lowered interest rates by 8% between December 2000 and April 2002. The headline overnight borrowing rate remains at 7%. The central bank is expected to move away from a relaxed monetary policy by the end of 2002.
