COLONIAL records identified this event as the "Philippine Insurrection against the United States.'' For six decades, this misleading title stood uncorrected until Historian Teodoro Agoncillo published his book entitled Malolos: The Crisis of the Republic (University of the Philippines Press, 1960) and made the necessary correction. Professor Agoncillo called this event the "Filipino-American War.''
Indeed, the armed conflict between the Filipinos and Americans from February 4, 1899, to General Miguel Malvar's surrender on April 16, 1902, should rightfully be called such as it was an armed conflict between two governments. In fact, present-day historians say that ...
