U.S. Agency to Weigh "Socia Issues in Offshore Planning

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - In an attempt to regain credibility, the U.S. Minerals Management Service has expanded the scope of its annual "information transfer meetings" and is contracting with universities for studies without any strings attached.

There's also a promise that MMS "will conduct a slimmer, trimmer and more focused offshore leasing program," including more environmental studies, enforcement and inspections, according to Frank Bracken, undersecretary of the Interior Department.
