STEVE Finnan is ready to claim his place in Ireland's World Cup starting line-up after the worst-kept secret in the Premiership was revealed at the weekend.
Finnan was recognized as the best right back in England at the PFA awards on Sunday night.
In the absence of another Irishman Steve Carr, who has missed the season and will miss the trip to the Far East, Finnan's fellow professionals got it absolutely right on the night.
True to form, though, the player wasn't there to receive the accolade.
