Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
by Richard M Sherman and Robert B Sherman:
London Palladium
YES, the car, good old Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, flies over the front stalls, sprouting wings like a psychedelic bat.
And its first appearance, gleaming like the magnificent old antique of racing car legend, is applauded with the clap-happy, sing-along enthusiasm of a crowd at an ice-skating competition.
The 1968 movie has been transposed to the stage - pretty faithfully and with some clever improvements - and is likely to prove the most popular children's show in town.
