PADANG, W Sumatra, April 18 Asia Pulse - Indonesian cement producer Semen Padang has announced plans to construct a new plant next year in anticipation of increasing demand for its products by 2005.

"We are planning to build a new plant, to be called Indarung VI, to anticipate a surge in the need for cement in the next three years," company spokesman Hidayat K. said.

He predicted that cement production will fall short of demand in 2005.

The construction of the new plant, which will have a production capacity of 2.3 million tons per year, will cost US$345 million, he said.
