SANTA ANA, Calif. _ When butterfly gardeners get together, the subject of buddleia _ touted as the top butterfly magnet _ is bound to come up. My cue to moan to myself like a real amateur that I've grown this spicy-scented shrub and haven't had a single butterfly visit.
What I discovered, though, at a recent lecture at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden in Claremont, was that I was growing the wrong kind of buddleia.
