Apr. 19--Shawnee's gain was Mission's loss Thursday, as news spread of the Fine Arts Theatre's pending move.
Officials in Shawnee rejoiced upon learning that the Fine Arts would move three miles west down Johnson Drive to the site of the former Aztec Theatre. The theater is moving because it has lost its lease, its operators said.
"Fantastic!" said Shawnee City Councilman Neal Sawyer, who represents Shawnee's downtown. He was among city leaders who said a reopening of the theater could kick-start their revival efforts.
