ST. PAUL _ It appears that Matt Birk will be staying at center.
The Vikings believe they found an anchor for the left side of their offensive line with the selection of Miami's mountainous tackle Bryant McKinnie with the No. 7 overall pick in the NFL draft Saturday. He represents the team's highest draft choice in 17 years.
"Instant starter," Vikings coach Mike Tice, the team's former offensive line coach, said of McKinnie. "He's a man among boys. . . . I didn't think we'd get a chance to draft him."
