To diversify its energy sources, Tunisia has begun to invest in E&P operations abroad. The powerful Minister of Industry, Moncef Ben Abdallah, has been behind the move into oil and gas rich countries by his ministry's fully-owned and integrated company Entreprise Tunisienne d'Activites Petrolisres (ETAP). ETAP has acquired E&P interests in Algeria and Libya; it is trying to move into Syria and Yemen. Its initial move is through minority stakes in E&P ventures. ETAP is interested in Egypt's gas E&P as well.
