COMPANY PROFILE

W.C. Zickgraf founded Zickgraf Hardwood Co. in 1933, and he and 18 employees built a sawmill in Franklin, N.C. His background of 40 years in the lumber business gave him the faith to believe that the slackening Depression would ultimately bring an increase in demand for lumber, and he was right. Zickgraf's son, Grant, and other employees built the first of what was to become 16 dry kilns. The addition of dry kiln facilities made it possible for the expanded operations to include a hardwood flooring and planing mill.
