THE fight between St George and the dragon will be re-enacted in Coventry tomorrow to mark the patron saint's day and his historic connections with the city. Those who promote the city say St George the dragon slayer was a Coventry kid invented by a mediaeval king who wanted a heroic patron saint. PAULA HALL reports.
WHEN St George was chosen to be patron saint of England, his qualifications for the job might well have read: knight, dragon slayer, Coventry kid.
Our mythical hero was born just off the Ansty Road in Wyken.
