The many long-standing ties between Italy and the United States in the area of contemporary architecture have come about through emigration and the continual exchange of writings, through teaching and other influences among the architects of both nations. The fruits of this constant cross-pollination are architectural works of exceptional beauty, such as the Church of the Year 2000 in the Roman suburbs, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Richard Meier, and the renovation of the Ara Pacis art gallery, also in Rome.
