Orson Welles didn't invent deep focus, but the stunning, digitally-remastered DVD version of Citizen Kane, newly available from Warner Bros., makes us wonder if there was any such thing before 1941. Describing Welles's spectacular foray into filmmaking, Andre Bazin hailed Citizen Kane as nothing less than "a vast stirring up of the geological bed of cinema."
