BEIJING, April 24 Asia Pulse - China's market of air-conditioners is oversupplied.

After more than two decades of development, China's output of air conditioners jumped from only 223 units in 1978 to 23.13 million in 2001, averaging an annual growth 43.4 per cent. The country boasts nearly 50 per cent of the world air conditioner production capacity.

But, the penetration rate of air conditioner is still quite low in China as compared with refrigerator, washing machine and TV sets. According to authoritative statistics, there were only 35.7 air-conditioners for every 100 households in 2001 as against only 16.3 in 1997.
