A California woman who says she was impregnated by a Catholic priest who then paid for her abortion will receive a $1.2 million settlement from two California dioceses.
Lori Copobianco Haigh filed suit in December and said the quick settlement shows that the church knew about the abuse. "I was prepared for years," she said of her legal fight, according to the Associated Press. "It says that they know."
In her complaint, Haigh, now 37, said Fr. John Lenihan began abusing her in 1978 when she was 14. When she became pregnant at age 16, she said Lenihan gave her money for an abortion.
