Apr. 26--NYT CHANGES: A spring shuffle is under way at The New York Times as executive editor Howell Raines continues to take a hard look at the national desk, staffers wait to hear about reassignments overseas and some just walk out the door.

Sources said Sam Howe Verhovek, who heads the Seattle bureau, will join The Los Angeles Times as a correspondent in Asia. He'll be the latest of several New York Times writers and editors switching to the L.A. paper in the past two years, following former Atlanta bureau chief Kevin Sack.
