SOUTHPORT'S pounds 7m new-look pier is to finally open after five years of wrangling.
The May Day Bank Holiday will give people the first chance to take a stroll along it.
Visitors will be able to walk the full length of the pier uninterrupted for the first time in almost 70 years, with a view across Liverpool Bay to North Wales.
It had been feared the Victorian landmark would be bulldozed after rescue package problems and the collapse of a construction company. But Britain's oldest and second longest pier has been saved after the snags were ironed out.
