NEW GLARUS -- They came, they ate soup - and they began a movement to help people who are experiencing health insurance problems.
More than 1,000 dined on soup at the New Glarus High School Saturday at the Stone Soup fund-raiser and spent about $20,000 to help Michelle Deininger, a New Glarus woman who has racked up large medical bills since being diagnosed with colon cancer. Deininger, whose family owns Deininger's restaurant, was one of many people left without adequate insurance when Group Health Cooperative pulled out of Green County at the beginning of last year.
