Apr. 26--Lake County officials have paid nearly $4 million for land near Lake Villa that includes a 15-acre slice of federally protected wetlands considered unusually valuable because of the potential to filter storm water.
The total acquisition involves fewer than 150 acres but contains one of the more than 200 high-quality wetlands in Lake County that the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency has identified as worth saving, said Forest Preserve District President Al Westerman.
