LOS ANGELES _ The very young Dan Guerrero was forced to bed by 7 p.m. every night.

For one thing, the streets of Wilmington were a bit volatile in the late `60s; for another, Gene Guerrero had spent all day at the Union 76 refinery, and he wanted at least a piece of quiet.

"But I managed to sneak that transistor radio into bed," Dan Guerrero said Friday, "and I'd sit there and listen to my passion, the Dodgers. Yeah, my dad busted me a couple of times. And he made me pay the price. But not enough to stop me from doing it, and, eventually, he understood."
