Hilary O. McMahon of Tewksbury, a retired Tewksbury Fire Department lieutenant, died Thursday at a nursing home in Chelmsford. He was 82.
Born in Maine and raised in Brookline, he attended St. Aiden's High School and Northeastern University. He lived in Dorchester before moving to Tewksbury in 1954.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. After attending OCS, he was commissioned as a first lieutenant and served in the European Theater. He participated in many campaigns and battles including the invasion of Normandy. He earned a Bronze Star with Oak Clusters and was awarded two Purple Hearts.
