As it has done for the last 46 years, the Central New York branch of the National League of American Pen Women ran a poetry and art contest this spring. The winners were to be honored at an awards ceremony Saturday.
What is different about this year's contest is that all six winners in the middle-school poetry group, from three honorable mentions to first place, came from the same school: Liverpool Middle School.
"That is very, very unusual," says Sallie Bailey, a Manlius artist who has coordinated the poetry part of the contest for years. "The school itself must have a very good English program."
