Ex-Bass prexy buys Walk-Over
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Former G.H. Bass president and chief executive officer John S. Thorbeck last Friday purchased the George E. Keith Co., makers of Walk-Over men's dress and casual shoes.
He is partners with Hellman & Freedman, San Francisco, an investment firm, and Matrix Partners, Boston, a private venture capital firm.
Keith, a subsidiary of Official Industries since 1979, had been part of an estate, Thorbeck noted. The company began operations in 1758 and is considered one of the oldest shoe companies in America.
