Attempts by Congress leaders to iron out the differences between two groups of Commission on Elections (Comelec) officials were stymied again yesterday as four poll officials filed a new opposition to the confirmation of the appointments of three Comelec officials headed by its chairman Alfredo Benipayo before the Commission on Appointments (CA).

The infighting has become a stumbling block to the effort to modernize the electoral process in the 2004 presidential elections.
