SAN JOSE, Calif. _ Before the Sharks can think of hoisting the Stanley Cup in June, they now must beat the last team to circle the ice with it.
Defending-champ Colorado defeated Los Angeles 4-0 Monday night, advancing to the second round in seven games and ending the suspense over San Jose's next challenge. Now the Avalanche appear to have less than 48 hours before the expected Wednesday opener at Denver's Pepsi Center.
And that, several Sharks said, could work in their favor _ at least in Game 1 _ because San Jose has been off since clinching its series with Phoenix on Friday.
