The sizzling tastes and smells and sounds of St. Paul's Hispanic community will fire up the city's West Side this weekend during the annual Cinco de Mayo festival.
Nicholas Lopez Santamaria, a native West Sider who is active in the community, can't wait. He knows the annual spring fiesta brings many benefits to the area.
There's the obvious economic boost from the thousands of visitors who trek through the Concord Street area's Latino stores and restaurants. But the festival's focus on Latino culture and customs makes it more than just a money-making venture for the vendors and shopkeepers.
