HONOLULU--The Hawaii Tourism Authority (HTA) faces challenges this spring on a number of fronts. Chief among them is that proposed bills in the state legislature could decrease the authority's annual budget by nearly one-fifth (to $50 million per year), impose further oversight on the authority's spending, and modify the size and composition of the volunteer board.
In addition, the HTA is working to address criticisms contained in a state audit issued in February regarding communication and accountability. Terms of eight members are set to expire June 30, and the authority is conducting a search for a new executive director against the backdrop of pending ...
