Try to find a new golf course with a local address these days, and it's a lot like sifting through the tall grass for a lost ball. It's a fruitless search.
For the first time since 1986, we will go a full calendar year without any course openings in the greater Puget Sound region. Three years ago, there were five unveilings. In 2002, zip. This after a building boom that saw 40 nine- or 18-hole facilities, or more than two per year, invade the landscape from the Canadian border to the state capital.
