Columbian Chemicals (Marietta, GA) has reduced discounts on carbon black in North America, and announced price increases in Europe and South America. Columbian says it has reduced North American discounts by nine percentage points, effective May 15; European prices will rise by 12%, effective May 20, and South American prices will go up 15% effective April 15. The company cites "unsustainably low" margins. There are no increases announced for Asia.
Columbian is the third-largest carbon black supplier. Cabot Corp. and Degussa Engineered Carbons, the largest and second-largest producers, respectively, have also announced price increases, market sources say. The ...
