NOFROLK, Va. _ Forget about Hampton Roads and Tidewater and Greater Norfolk. What would you think if someone said you live in the urbanized area called simply "Virginia Beach"?
The federal government just did.
This week the Census Bureau announced that the "urbanized area" that used to be called "Norfolk-Virginia Beach-Newport News, Va." has been changed to just "Virginia Beach, Va."
What's more, the urbanized area no longer includes Suffolk _ even though Suffolk, with 63,000 residents, is among the 100 fastest-growing areas of the country and more urban today than ever.
