Vitamins May Help Prevent Cataracts
BOSTON, MASS.: Because cataracts may be caused in part by oxidation of the lens of the eye, scientists have theorized that antioxidant vitamins -- substances that prevent oxidative damage -- might help prevent or slow down the development of cataracts.
Paul Jacques, Sc.D., of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Human Nutrition Center at Tufts University, reported on an epidemiological study of 112 subjects aged 40 to 70 in Boston.
