Every year on May 3, James Cazares of South Barrington reminds himself that freedom should not be taken for granted.
Cazares, and almost a million other Polish-Americans around the Chicago area, today are celebrating Constitution Day.
It commemorates the date in 1791 when the Polish constitution was passed, limiting the influence of the monarchy and imbuing peasants and ordinary citizens with basic human rights.
Today, Polish flags will fly from homes and businesses and out of car windows.
