Demand in the US for engineered plastics is projected to advance four percent per year through 2006 to 5.7 billion pounds, valued at $10.8 billion. Gains will result from performance and cost advantages over competitive materials, which will continue to spur the development of new applications. While a number of conversions from metal and other traditional materials are fairly well established, new applications will continue to occur, centering around more demanding performance requirements, particularly where high-temperature and electrical insulation properties are essential.
