May 7--ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.--The Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau is celebrating National Tourism Week through Sunday, a countrywide awareness campaign on the importance of tourism in the economy.
Tourism is New Mexico's second largest industry after oil and gas, bringing $3.6 billion to the state, according to a 1999 study by the Travel Industry Association of America. Bureau figures show that tourism is responsible for about 26,000 local jobs and brings $1.7 billion to the Albuquerque economy through visitor spending, said Mary Kay Cline, bureau president ...
