The output of caustic soda in China was 7.382 million tons in 200, a rise of 10.86% over the previous year, and the growth rate was 9.05 percentage points down compared with 2000. The net export amount was more than 598 000 tons, a rise of 145%. The apparent consumption was 6.811 million tons, a rise of 5.1%, and the growth rate was 15.5 percentage points lower than in 2000.
Australia imports 1.4 million tons of caustic soda each year mainly from Asia and the United States. It is expected that the import amount will increase by 400 000 tons per year in the next 3-4 years. In 2001, the chlor-alkali industry in the United States suffered from demand reduction in ...
