"Trud" reported on 23 April that statistical data show that the number of extremely poor people in Russia decreased by 16 million in the first quarter of this year, compared with the same period in 2001. There are still more than 40 million poor people in Russia. The per capita cash income of Russians, according to the State Statistics Committee, amounted to 3,295 rubles ($105.54) a month, ITAR-TASS reported.
