THE understandable concentration on 'the war on terrorism' has meant that the world has paid less attention to other outstanding problems in international affairs. One of the most dangerous of these is the stalemate between Taiwan and mainland China which has not been resolved. President Bush has been reminded of this during his February visit to China.
Some analysts have been thinking the unthinkable or playing a role of devil's advocate by asking whether the Chinese People's Liberation Army (CPLA) might attack Taiwan in the near future? In this article, I shall present a few theories and criticise each one of them. I will later on come up with my own framework ...
