1. Introduction
In the study of the relationship between Ricardo and Marx, attention is traditionally concentrated on the criticism addressed by Marx to Ricardo [e.g., Bortkiewicz, 1952; Steedman, 1982] to the neglect of another important aspect of Marx's views. This is the interpretation that Marx gives of Ricardo's theory, i.e., the analytical model that Marx, in his attempt to understand the basic lines of Ricardo's theoretical investigation, attributes to the author of Principles.
