The International Herb Growers Association annually picks its herb of the year. This year that would be - drumroll, please - echinacea.
But because you can't do much with echinacea in a culinary way, the Denver Botanic Gardens Guild has chosen its own herb to feature at this year's plant sale: thyme.
``We took a vote,'' says guild member Chris Ross, and when the votes were counted, thyme was of the essence. Strong-flavored, spicy and pungent, it's a favorite in vegetarian cuisine. And most varieties are hardy and easy to grow. Seventeen kinds of thyme, both culinary and ornamental, will be available Friday ...
