Merrill Lynch & Co.'s woes, from the massive restructuring announced last year to the recent investigation by the New York State Attorney General's office, may be sweeping across the Street. But by one measure, at least, the turmoil at Merrill is having a positive effect elsewhere: the availability of top talent.
Deutsche Bank, which has a long tradition of hiring Merrill bankers, is one of the biggest beneficiaries. Most recently, Deutsche hired former Merrill banker Mike Regan to head up its European investment-grade trading operations. Regan supervised Merrill's European corporate bond trading until two weeks ago.
