SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Taking action against the rising rates of overweight children, nearly 200,000 California children participated in 50 events held throughout the state to highlight the serious health consequences of poor diet and sedentary lifestyle and encourage their peers to make healthy food choices and be physically active. The American Cancer Society and the California Children's 5 a Day - Power Play! Campaign sponsored Spring Into Health! Day events to call attention to the epidemic of overweight children. These events provide children and their families with information and recommendations on how to take action to reduce their risk of overweight and obesity.
