MCLEAN, Va. -- USA TODAY has announced the appointment of Carol Stevens as Editorial Page editor effective June 1. Karen Jurgensen, editor of USA TODAY, made the announcement today.

Stevens, 46, replaces Brian Gallagher, who was named executive editor last month.

"Carol has been deeply involved in the evolution of the editorial page at USA TODAY over the past few years," Jurgensen said. "She offers the leadership skills and commitment to our values necessary to guide USA TODAY's Editorial Page into the future."
