HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. -- Like many Americans on Sept. 11, Hilton Head Island resident Nancy Presley was at first horrified. Her second thought: Could she do anything to help?
That started the ball rolling for the upcoming Hilton Head Island Appreciation Week that will provide a weeklong vacation for New York City firefighters, rescue workers, widows and grief counselors. Approximately 450 guests are expected. The unprecedented appreciation week began after resident Presley contacted another Hilton Head resident, Frank Bensieck, who co-owns a vacation home with her.
