NEW YORK -- Millions of children in economic need will be able to receive their own new books as the country's major children's publishers, and local literacy volunteers and organizations begin to use the new database and online capabilities of the First Book National Book Bank. As spokesperson for the First Book National Book Bank, actor Joan Allen will unveil the technology design breakthrough at a press conference during BookExpo America in New York on Friday, May 3, 2002 at 2 p.m. The online capabilities were made possible by a grant from Verizon.
