In laying the ground rules before introducing the candidates, Fayetteville-Manlius High School English teacher and class adviser Kelly Dombroske included possibly the most ignored command in the history of public gatherings: "Please hold your applause until the end."
As the candidates for senior class offices told their peers why they'd make a good president or treasurer, many of the juniors filling the gym bleachers yelled, clapped and whistled their support. Other students talked to each other, scribbled notes and last-minute homework assignments, or stared into space.
