FORGET the designer emporiums of Bond Street, apparently we're all shopping for ?5 shoes, ?12 trousers and ?8 tops now. Today it is the discount retailers, not the Italian labels, that are doing great business. Matalan, Primark and Peacock have doubled their market share in the past six years as shopping for clothes at the supermarket has become increasingly popular. The George at Asda range is currently flying out of the stores, and Tesco is about to grab part of the action with its new deal with the US Cherokee brand.
