PHILADELPHIA _ Just about now, Joseph Ruane, a married Catholic priest, could be shaking a finger at the church and saying, "I told you so."

But that is not the Christian way.

And make no mistake: Ruane may have resigned his parish post in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, he may celebrate Mass at home or participate in a Mass led by a woman, he may officiate at the weddings of divorced people, he may be married _ but he is still a Roman Catholic and he is still a priest.

Ruane, 69, was a founding member in 1968 of a group for priests who left their jobs because they disagreed with the church's insistence on celibacy.
