Paul Reizin, from Hampstead, lived a single life from his student years, through a career in newspapers, radio, then television, until one day he found himself alone in his mid-forties. Desperate to avoid more dinner dates arranged by friends, he placed a lonely hearts ad.
Ruth Webb, trapped in academic singledom, was idly perusing the paper when she spotted the ad and decided to contact this particular lonely heart. They met, fell in love and married.
Their first baby, Rachel Phoebe, was born on 2 May.
Paul's first novel, Dumping Hilary, is out today.
