On May 16, this was the situation for the Cubs: Their left fielder had been in and out of the lineup because of nagging injuries. Their No. 1 catcher was hitting in the .100s. The offense as a whole just couldn't get going.
Sound familiar? That was the scenario last year.
Somehow the Cubs managed to piece together a 21-18 record. Although they were suffering through an eight-game losing streak, things were still upbeat, and they'd follow immediately by winning 12 in a row.
This year, the scenario is similar but the results are oh so different, as evidenced by a 13-25 record.
